Dr. Paul A. Johnson, D.D.S., M.S.
Born in Richmond, California and raised in the mountains of Park City Utah, Dr. Johnson is no stranger to the outdoors. He has spent a lifetime skiing, snowboarding, mountain and road biking, playing soccer, tennis, dirt and street motorcycling among other things. He has lived in Sacramento since 2011 with his wife Jessica and their dog, Charlotte.
Education and work experience: During, and prior to undergraduate training, Dr. Johnson has worked as a finish carpenter, bicycle mechanic and an Emergency Medical Technician on an ambulance in Oakland, in the emergency department , as well as the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units at Children’s hospital Oakland. Later he worked as an ER Technician at Sutter Davis and San Diego Children’s hospital emergency department, and as a medical assistant at the UC Davis Student Health Center. He attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from University of California, San Diego, and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of California, San Francisco. He continued his training by completing a Master’s of Science degree and pediatric specialty training from University of California, San Francisco. During undergraduate and professional training Dr. Johnson was continually active in clinical and scientific research. He has contributed and is co-authored on two published papers. His master’s research project focused on the effects of oral Xylitol (non-cavity causing sugar) supplementation in an elementary school based dental program. In 2013 he became board certified in Pediatric Dentistry and currently is a Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Community: During his dentistry and pediatric specialty training at UCSF, he has continually and consistently volunteered his time helping organize and attending the annual UCSF Give Kids A Smile Day and SF Boys and Girls club Camp Mendocino oral health screening/education weekends. During residency training he has acted as the community outreach coordinator, liaison and mentor for the UCSF predoctoral pediatric dental club fostering interest and activities for dental students who wish either more exposure to pediatric dentistry, or for those interested in specializing. Dr. Johnson has received numerous awards for his dedication and commitment to the community, pediatric dentistry and to those with persons with special needs.
Since moving to Sacramento, he continues his commitment to the community by regularly volunteering at local dental outreach events such as CDA Cares, Give Kids a Smile, and local health fairs organized by the Sacramento Dental Society where free dental exams and treatment are offered for children. He also continues to volunteer and mentor UCSF pediatric dentistry residents at the Berkeley Free Dental Clinic.

Dr. Johnson has been racing motorcycles since 2003. He rides two professionally prepared and fully sponsored race bikes for Catalyst Reaction Tuning and has over twenty-five corporate sponsors including Pirelli Tires, Motiopro controls and Galfer Brakes among others. As of 2015 Dr. Johnson holds six regional expert championship titles with the American Federation of Motorcyclists. He has over 200 podium finishes. He has raced with multiple organizations including the AFM, AHRMA, OMRRA and AMA in California, Oregon, and Utah. Dr. Johnson has set and holds track records for fastest lap on various displacement motorcycles at different tracks including Sonoma Raceway and Buttonwillow Raceway.
